The Importance of Engine Oil & Of Changing It

A vehicle’s engine would never function without the lifeblood that is its oil. Oil circulates throughout the engine and is responsible for lubricating all of its moving parts and keeping it (the engine) running smoothly. There are many moving parts in a vehicle’s engine that operate together. These many moving parts would rub against each other, create extreme levels of friction, and tear each other apart were it not for oil. Without oil, these parts would wear excessively, and the engine would ultimately fail. Some microscopic wear particles still fall eventually from the engine’s many parts due to the extreme levels of friction created by them (the engine’s moving parts). These tiny particles can do much damage to the engine. Thankfully, engine oil absorbs and removes these harmful wear particles and transfers them out of the engine and into the oil filter. Engine oil that is too old and worn is no longer able to fully perform these duties properly. These wear particles have a tendency to accumulate in old engine oil and won’t allow the oil to absorb any more debris. Oil also minimizes the engine’s exposure to oxygen, therefore limiting oxidation (rust) and corrosion. And oil serves as an engine coolant too.

The engine’s moving parts create so much heat energy, and oil is responsible for absorbing a great portion of that heat and reducing the friction among all of the engine’s many moving parts. As oil gets old, it moves much slower, doesn’t lubricate the engine’s parts as well, makes the engine work much harder to circulate the oil, and can lead to increased wear and damage. An oil change replaces the engine’s old, dirty oil that is weary, with new vibrant oil that will help the engine operate at a more efficient, safer level…, because fresh oil absorbs and disperses heat much better than old oil does. Old oil eventually stops lubricating the engine and can lead to significant engine damage and possible engine failure. This is why regular changing of your vehicle’s oil is so important; good fresh oil allows your engine to last much longer. You should generally have Go-Green Auto Service Corp change your vehicle’s engine oil every 3,000 miles or every 3 months (whichever is first to arrive). However, some newer vehicles require oil changes in as little as every 5,000 miles. This is why, in order to keep your engine running smoothly, Go-Green Auto Service Corp advises that you should always consult your particular vehicle’s make-&-model manufacturer recommendations on oil changes.
